Every DOG has his day…

dog's funeral procession

When Phil mentioned having a New Orleans’s style funeral for his old mate Dog I just had to come along and enjoy the spectacle…

Dog was obviously very much loved by his pals and most anyone he met on his life journey judging by the turn out and what folk were saying about him. Never met him myself, just moved to town last year and have got to know Phil by hanging out regular in his barber shop and working with him on this ‘ere website.

Councillor Beardy McBeardie Face aka Marc Kilsbie was in the chair having his hair removed and most of his beard exited stage left… “When is the competition?”, he asked enquiringly.

Step Five of Five Steps to a Perfect Shave and Healthy Skin

Most important that your aftershave and colognes DON’T contain alcohol

The alcohol dries the skin out and causes potential damage, ruining all that good work you’ve just done!

If you really must, it is essential that you moisturise first to protect the skin otherwise the alcohol will dry the skin, making it flakey!

Sidmouth Folk Festival BEARD Competition #SidFestBEARD

sidmouth folk festival beard competition web banner

Sidmouth Folk Festival 4th to 11th August 2017 will see Sidmouth’s population quadruple and I dare say the bearded population “sea” a very hairy 1000% increase!

Phil Weaver, Sidmouth’s resident Cut Throat barber on Church Street enjoyed a number of years on the Festival circuit before tuning into his own barber shop, a stone’s throw from The Esplanade and the beach!

This year he is hosting Sidmouth Folk Festival’s BEARD Competition #SidFestBEARD with the aim of celebrating men’s grooming, beards, folk and having a laugh during the summer season. Any excuse for a party! Thank you to Bluebeards Revenge for sponsoring the event and Sidmouth Folk Festival for acknowledging it.

This is a nice idea 😉 James Garret, Marketing Manager, Sidmouth Folk Festival

(Don’t worry there aren’t many!)

Each bearded contender needs to visit “The Barber” on Church Street.

Phil will take your photo and share it via Facebook & Instagram for the readers to Like, Love, Comment & Share to encourage more voting.

Folk don’t need to sit in the chair and have a trim but they’ll obviously want to look their best for the photos… don’t worry, Phil has worked miracles in the past 😉

Phil will give all contenders (while stocks last) a vile of his special beard potion / oil for them to massage into their beards, leaving some longer lasting Sidmouth Cut Throat Shaving Magic to put in their grooming bag which they can always top up online!

Voting closes at 12pm on Friday 11th August and the winner will be announced at 1pm to allow an afternoon of celebrations to commence…

The winner will get £100 worth of Bluebeards Revenge male grooming goodies … hurrah!

Please share this story far and wide so Devon’s bearded contingent is aware they could be a winner this summer…

Step Four of Five Steps to a Perfect Shave and Healthy Skin

After your shave make sure you close the pores properly…

Post shave, it’s important to close up those skin pores to prevent muck and grime getting in and giving you spots and black heads.

Rinse your face “properly” with warm water and then, if possible, apply a cold towel to close those clean healthy pores.

You should then apply your moisturiser or after shave balm to add fragrance but more importantly, add another line of defence for the skin.

Nicely clean shaven for video shoot…

smooth as a babies bum jon davey

I needed to look my best for the video… so obviously there was only one bloke that came to mind… Phil Weaver 😉

I’ve done a bunch of videos over the years and they seem to come out far better when there’s a professional on the end of the camera rather than my chunky fingers & thumbs! So I grabbed this opportunity…

jon davey bitpod

But first I needed to look my best…

cut throat shaving jon davey in chair

Morning of the evening shoot and my shirt’s ironed and ready… to shave or not to shave, that is the question, for it’s probably nobler to let a professional cut throat barber do his best, don’t want to get a skin rash just hours before! Texted my man Phil Weaver, the cut throat barber in Sidmouth, could he fit me in at 2pm… “Come on down…” came the reply… you try 0781 792 6624

smooth as a baby's bum jon davey

Smooth as a baby’s bum comes to mind but European law means we have to be inclusive, almost as shiny as a baboon’s freshly rinsed rear end 😉

Phil knows how to get close and remove all that muck & grime as well as the bristles… perfect job… just needed to get those words in the right order on the video now!

What do you think?

Thank you.

Step Three of Five Steps to a Perfect Shave and Healthy Skin

phil weaver cut throat shaving 5 steps

Whatever razor you use for shaving the most important thing is to GO WITH THE GRAIN of your beard.

If you want to avoid black heads and razor rash then make sure you shave with the grain with your cut throat or safety razor.

You really don’t want to push any soap, dead sin, oil particles into your pores… so with the grain please…

Always make sure your razor is skin temperature before shaving… put in warm water for 30 seconds… the blade is sharper when warm.

And remember, disposable razors are called that for a reason, they should only be used the ONCE!

Step One of Five Steps to a Perfect Shave and Healthy Skin

phil weaver cut throat shaving 5 steps

Phil Weaver, Cut throat barber, recommends exfoliating twice a week for the perfect shave and healthier skin.

Use a face scrub with a wheat germ or walnut germ component for the best results.

At other times use a alcohol or sulphate free soap to keep your skin in top shape.

Shaving with a dirty face can cause razor rash and black heads… you don’t want that!

Keep the pores clean and open for healthier skin…

Buy your Face Scrub from Phil in store (more choices) or
online here >>>

I found this a little amusing… when you Google “exfoliate” then it gives you:

• cause (a surface) to shed material in scales or layers. “salt solutions exfoliate rocks on evaporating”

• wash or rub (a part of the body) with a granular substance to remove dead skin cells. “exfoliate your legs to get rid of dead skin”

Obviously the first is for the elite and Royals if David Icke is to be believed, the later for the rest of us mortals 😉

Do pop in, or give me a call, if you’d like to discuss anything to do with shaving or hair care and if I don’t know the answer I will find out for you.

Thank you.

P.S. We have more product choices in store because some of our suppliers don’t like us to offer products online as it competes with their own channels.

Is it Taboo to talk about Tom Hardy’s Hair?

There will be tears next weekend as Tom Hardy’s character James Keziah Delaney leaves our screens!

Real men, especially those with beards, will morn this hiccup in the BBC schedule… what were they thinking, as episode one hit our screens surely they knew they needed to commission 5 more series on the spot!

Brilliant character play by Tom Hardy but what about that hair… it deserves an Oscar on its own 😉

Phil knows some of the mystical hair play craft that goes into making Tom larger than life… press play on video to find out more…

Obviously he means Tom Hardy but some weird protective dark force made us say Tom Daley… must have been those trunks he’s not wearing!

Funnily enough, the Sidmouth Herald is on the same wavelength as Phil and myself in telling Tom’s story… Phil spotted their story “20 things you never knew about Tom Hardy” when he bought today’s copy after our video shoot this morning!

You’d best get yourself a copy of the Sidmouth Herald and then pop in to see Phil on Church Street and ask how he can bring your inner spirit to life with his magic scissors 😉

And then tweet #BBCtaboo demanding they get on with the next series ASAP!

Do share a picture of your new hair with us… via Phil’s Facebook Channel or add a comment with a link to the photo below…

Thank you.

Proraso products for shaving & beard maintenance

Phil Weaver, the Cut Throat Barber on Church Street, Sidmouth only uses the best products he’s tried and tested over the years.

Today’s video is focusing on the Proraso range in his words… pop in and give them a try…

And in theirs…

Proraso products do not contain any ingredients of animal origin. The only exceptions are The Shaving Brush that is made of natural bristles and the Moustache Wax that contains beeswax.

Proraso began with the GREEN line, with guaranteed freshness, expanding to include specialist lines that meet special characteristics and needs. It’s an evolution, but one that’s never lost sight of their authenticity. Refreshing and invigorating, it’s suitable for all beard and skin types with pleasant notes of menthol and eucalyptus.

Then there’s the WHITE range for sensitive and easily irritated skin, with extracts of green tea and oatmeal. It helps prevent redness and leaves the skin soft. With a delicate fruity fragrance of lime and apple.

RED is exfoliating and nourishing, it’s for thicker, coarser beards, softening and preparing them for shaving. With shea butter. An intense fragrance scented by sandalwood.

And BLUE protecting and moisturising, it’s dedicated to those who demand a close and comfortable shave. With aloe vera and vitamin E. A modern and spicy fragrance with notes of amber and musk.

The current product range includes:

Made with a “hot soap process”, it’s left to mature in small batches for 10 days in a temperature-controlled room that protects it from temperature changes. During this time, the moisture evaporates and the product becomes solid and more “concentrated”, perfect for a professional shave with a brush.

Made with a “hot soap process”, it’s left to mature for 3 days. This produces an extremely fine, thick and creamy soap that, with the aid of a brush, produces a soft and rich lather.

Its recipe, based on vegetable stearin, has been enriched with natural ingredients for a particularly rich lather that enhances the razor’s glide.

A daily action to complete the shaving ritual, giving immediate relief to the skin. The traditional formula has been enriched with a selection of fresh and natural ingredients that make it particularly refreshing and invigorating.

Providing immediate relief without alcohol, this balm completes the shaving ritual. It combines the benefits of a balm, which refreshes and revitalises the skin, with that of a soothing cream.

Designed as daily treatment for those who like a long, bushy beard. Just a few drops also softens stubble and rebellious beards, making them disciplined and pleasant to caress.

An harmonious and comfortable blend of cedar wood and notes of Mediterranean cistus leave the beard with a pleasant sensation of freshness.

It softens the beard and refreshes the skin. It’s ideal during the first weeks of beard and moustache growth. It reduces the annoying itching that comes from hair growth, softens the beard and hydrates the skin.

An intensive treatment with hot oil is a must for all long beard lovers! Excellent for nourishing and restructuring even stubble, it facilitates healthy growth without breakages. Perfect for “taming” a rebel beard.

Designed for all moustache lovers, this wax, formulated with shea butter and beeswax, is perfect for getting whatever shape you desire from the classic handlebar to the Hungarian moustache.
